Dr Nicola Stokes is IDA’s Chief Technologist for International Financial Services where she is responsible for identifying and winning FDI financial technology investments across emerging technology areas such as AI, DLT and Quantum etc. Nicola’s background is in Computer Science. She has a PhD in AI and has published over 50+ peer reviewed publications, winning awards for her research. Prior to joining IDA she worked for SFI managing their portfolio of ICT academic research awards. Before that she spent 15 years in academia managing AI R&D projects in diverse domains such as life sciences, health informatics, smart cities and media analytics. Nicola is a member of the Government’s Expert Groups on Future Skills Needs in Artificial Intelligence and AI Regulation, and also sits on the Dept of Finance’s Fintech Steering Committee. In 2021, she was awarded IT Leader of the Year at the Women in Tech Excellence Awards.
Steve is a technology professional with more than 25 years of industry experience in payments, technology, government, and academia. He is currently responsible for leading Mastercard Foundry’s R&D initiatives in artificial intelligence and quantum computing. In this role, Steve leads a team of talented data scientists, data engineers and software engineers to develop new technologies and to bring new products and services to market. Steve has been with Mastercard for more than a decade. His first role was leading Start Path, a global, homegrown program focused on engaging startups and fintech companies in accelerating innovation though Mastercard’s resources and customer network. Recently, Steve was recognized as a Mastercard Distinguished Engineer for his excellence in solution development, talent attraction, mentorship and building and executing on Mastercard strategic vision. Prior to joining Mastercard, Steve spent eight years with the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the Irish government agency charged with investing in academic research projects. At SFI, he managed an investment portfolio of more than $150 million in software, computer science, artificial intelligence projects and research centres. Before that, Steve spent ten years in various senior software development roles across a wide range of sectors. Steve holds a B.S. Computer Applications from Dublin City University and a Ph.D in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence from Trinity College Dublin.
An innovative technology leader, Ciaran has led AI initiatives that have resulted in increased organisational efficiency and enhanced client experiences. Throughout his career in global investment banks, Ciaran has showcased leadership by successfully executing AI initiatives, large technology programs and high-profile client onboarding programs. Ciaran is well-versed in the challenges and opportunities presented by AI technologies and is a knowledgeable and confident educator in this space. Ciaran has a passion for technology and the future of artificial intelligence, however, he approaches it with a thoughtful consideration of its potential risks and ethical implications. Ciaran’s scientific background fuels his curiosity, and he actively contributes to the field through writing thought-leadership articles on AI and also staying keenly focused on the field of quantum computing.
Michael Dascal is Director of Quantum Product Management at the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), where he leads the quantum research team strategy and vision. Prior to joining Fidelity, Michael completed a PhD in Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Information at the University of Maryland, as well as a Masters in Philosophy with a specialisation in the Philosophy of Quantum Information at the University of Oxford. In addition to his academic experience, Michael also ran a successful marketing consultancy for ten years, creating brand guidelines, advertising campaigns, and other marketing content for Fortune 100 companies around the world. Outside of FCAT, Michael is co-founder of a newly launched initiative, Diversity in Quantum (DiviQ), which aims to diversify the quantum workforce by providing aspiring quantum professionals from underrepresented groups with the role-models, mentors, career advice, and community support they need to succeed.
Emil is a senior computational scientist at ICHEC, where he leads the Quantum Computing Activity. Prior to joining ICHEC in May 2021, he held a number of research and development roles across industry, spanning a diverse range of technical areas. His current professional focus and interests are in the areas of Machine Learning and Quantum Computing. He is particularly interested in the development and application of novel High Performance Computing and Quantum Machine Learning approaches to challenging real-world problems.
