Event Speakers

Dr. Norah Patton

Dr. Norah Patten is the Commercial Manager at Réaltra Space Systems Engineering. She is an aeronautical engineer by background and a bioastronautics researcher with the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS). Norah participated in the International Space University Space Studies Program in 2010, holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Limerick, participated in the Enterprise Ireland New Frontiers Program, and has industrial experience from The Boeing Company and Bell Labs Alcatel Lucent. Norah is a former global faculty member at the International Space University (ISU), and is contracted to fly to space as part of the IIAS-02 crew with Virgin Galactic in 2026.

 

Michael Martin

Michael Martin is Engineering Manager in Réaltra Space Systems Engineering, managing the engineering team that has flown video, navigation, and science instruments on Ariane launchers, small launchers and satellites. Previously worked with the University of Maynooth and European Space Agency as Engineering Manager of 3 spacecraft instruments that were successfully flown on Russian and ESA satellites to Mars and Haley’s Comet. Worked at the ESA technical centre in ESTEC, The Netherlands on a number of optical communications projects. Michael has worked with a number of multi-national Secure Payment Companies (Verifone, NCR) and was responsible for the release of new banking products to major worldwide banks.

 

James Murphy

James Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in experimental physics from TU Dublin and an MSc in Space Science and Technology from UCD. At Réaltra Space Systems Engineering, he focuses on developing flight and ground software, and was one of the lead engineers for the on-board camera projects for Ariane 5 and 6. As part of his PhD, James recently completed a visiting researcher position at ESA’s ESTEC facility in the Netherlands working with machine learning anomaly detection models for satellite health monitoring. He is currently writing his thesis on this topic and plans to submit before the end of the year.
