This pathway for business leaders was designed in consultation with an industry advisory board, comprised of indigenous Irish and global organisations across various sectors, ensuring recognition and relevance of the learning outcomes across different sectors and disciplines.

This short online course introduces the capabilities of quantum computing and its potential impact on your business for the short and medium terms, and beyond. It will ensure that you are informed of the latest trends and technologies in quantum, and equip you to take advantage of the opportunities that quantum computing represents.

 

This course is delivered online. The course runs for 4 weeks and is delivered via synchronous and asynchronous directed activities, using state of the art technologies and teaching techniques to facilitate learning anywhere, anytime.

 

The course will be delivered through 2x sessions, with each session composed of:

  • 60-minute recorded lecture
  • 120-minute live tutorial by video conference
  • 120-minute supported exercise
  • Self-study of recommended material

 

Each session will take place over a 2 week period, for a course duration of 4 weeks in total. The online learning format offers you an opportunity to interact with both your training providers and industry peers.

Participants will receive a certificate from the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) upon successful completion of the course.

 

Topic 1: Demystifying Quantum Computing

  • This topic introduces the era of high-performance computing and its impact, followed by positioning where quantum computing fits, and explains how the quantum computing ecosystem looks.

 

Topic 2: Integrating High-Performance and Quantum Computing

  • This topic covers the fundamental and technical reasons for integrating classical & quantum computing and the road ahead in the approaches and activities integrating classical & quantum computing.

The Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC)

The Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) at the University of Galway is Ireland’s national centre for High-Performance Computing (HPC) providing e-infrastructure, services and expertise to academia, industry and the public sector supported by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Skills and the Higher Education Authority. Established in 2005, ICHEC is also the National HPC Competence Centre in Ireland under the EuroHPC Competence Centre (EuroCC) initiative.

It runs online over four weeks, has no application prerequisites and focuses on the strategic and organisational implications of quantum computing. Quantum Programming Foundations is a more technical 12-week Level 8 programme worth 5 ECTS, aimed at technical professionals who want practical experience with quantum systems, software stacks and algorithms.

The course is delivered fully online over four weeks, divided into two learning sessions. Each session includes a one-hour recorded lecture, a two-hour live online tutorial, a two-hour supported exercise and additional self-study. The format combines flexible learning with opportunities to interact with tutors and other participants.

The full course fee is €499, with Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet funding reducing the cost to €399 for eligible participants.
