This holiday season, we wanted to do something different to reflect on the impactful training and initiatives over the last 12 months that we’ve delivered to businesses looking to grow, professionals working in tech looking to further their careers, and those looking to reskill so as to switch careers or find a job in tech… So, we created 12 Days of #TechTidings, shared across our social channels, with each day highlighting a successful milestone for Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet during 2023.
The common thread running through each Tech Tiding we’ve highlighted is they all live and breathe our mission to help individuals and organisations build the critical technology skills needed to succeed, and to realise their full potential. From cutting edge programmes in blockchain to developing new learning pathways in quantum, each day focused on a unique area of developing Ireland’s tech talent. Developing tech skills for over 2,000 people
Over 2,200 professionals across Ireland from various industries and functions have trained with us in 2023, looking to improve their tech skills, grow their career prospects and network with professional peers.
44 cutting edge ICT programmes delivered
We collaborated on, and funded training for, 44 different tech programmes in 2023, ranging from PhD programmes and Level 9 Masters down to self-paced industry-accredited micro-creds.
Over 800 Irish businesses selected us as a strategic training partner
Over 800 companies took part in training with Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet in 2023, supporting their staff with personal and professional development opportunities. These companies were able to access subsidised upskilling with our academic partners and bespoke training through in-company events.
Collaborated with 18 academic and industry partners to deliver tech training
We delivered innovative and impactful tech training through 18 different training partners over the course of 2023, from national academic institutes such as Technological University Dublin, Atlantic Technological University and National College of Ireland, to industry-based organisations, such as The Hackett Institute, ICTTF – Cyber Risk Academy, and Ionology.
30+ jobseekers started their learning journey to a new career in tech
Continuing to build talent pipelines into industry, our hugely successful Future in Tech pathway programme saw 300+ non-tech jobseekers start their learning journey into areas including Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Cloud, #SoftwareDevelopment, Digital Marketing, Web Development and IT Networking, to access new job opportunities in tech.
127 students undertaking their PhD in Data Science
Over 120 learners will soon emerge with their PhD in Data Science from a large-scale collaborative initiative between the University of Limerick, University College Dublin, Maynooth University, Science Foundation Ireland, Skillnet Ireland and Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet, trained with world-class foundational understanding in the horizontal themes of Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Machine Learning.
350+ professionals upskilling for free through IBM SkillsBuild tech pathways
IBM SkillsBuild provides 1800+ online self-paced courses in technology, and related professional skills, for those looking to upskill or cross-skill. Our partnership with IBM SkillsBuild has given over 350 individuals access to essential fundamental skills, to help prepare them for entry-level jobs in tech, earning credentials and getting guidance from technology experts, all at no cost to the learner.
5th intake of students on our MSc in Blockchain programme
Blockchain stands as a beacon of innovation. Our Level 9 Masters in Blockchain programme with Dublin City University School of Computing, which began it’s fifth intake earlier this year, plays a pivotal role in preparing employees and companies to spearhead projects, contributing massively to the evolution of this technology. In further blockchain related milestones for us this year, Blockchain Ireland Week 2023 marked a triumphant coming together of entrepreneurs, developers, and industry leaders, fostering momentum and opportunities in the field. As proud sponsors of this initiative, we unveiled our new Postgraduate Certificate In Blockchain for Leaders at the event, with module 1 starting this January.
2 new learning pathways in quantum for managers with technical and non-tech background
Ireland’s first national strategy for quantum technologies was launched in November by Minister Simon Harris and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. Quantum 2030 focuses the efforts of Ireland’s quantum community on areas of emerging growth, where we can achieve competitive advantage. Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet is helping to drive this agenda by creating innovative and industry-led upskilling pathways, such as our Quantum Computing for Business Leaders and Quantum Computing for Technical Managers courses.
8 inspiring open source events delivered through our support of Open Ireland Network community
Open source software, which can be freely inspected and even modified, is reshaping how business does business. It supports the productivity, cost-effectiveness and the collaboration needed to drive innovation. It champions transparency, empowers adaptability, and fosters a global community ethos. The Open Ireland Network, set up with the support of Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet, is a community for individuals and a network for organisations in Ireland who want to connect around Open Source Software, Open Hardware, Open Data, Open Research, Open Government and all things open. In 2023, we supported the Open Ireland Network come together, with 8x inspiring events and community meet-ups, with further growth planned for 2024.
Delivering future success for Global Business Services and Shared Services organisations
As Ireland continues to be recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Global Business Services, our GBS Diploma & MSc programmes contribute heavily to this unique achievement. Organisations across multiple sectors, including finance and biopharma, benefit greatly from participating on the courses, supporting employees to develop their skills for continued success in the future.
750+ professionals upskilled in Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is evident all around us, with the potential to transform every aspect of our lives, from smart cities and autonomous vehicles, through to improved healthcare services and low-carbon economies. It is one of the fastest growing areas of ICT industry and research, so it’s no wonder that in the past 12 months Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet has seen a large increase in the number of professionals enroling on our different Artificial Intelligence learning pathways.
As we unwrap these tech treasures, we celebrate not just our own growth, but the growth of the Irish tech sector and the development of talented tech professionals across the country in numerous industry sectors.
